What is the thread count for sheets?
Thread count refers to the total amount of threads vertically and horizontally within a square inch of the sheet fabric. For example a 300 count means 150 horizontal threads and 150 vertical threads woven together.
How do you measure thread counts?
Cotton especially grades itself on the thread count, usually the higher the thread count the softer the cotton and the higher the price.
But unfortunately the high cotton thread count fabric is more dense and warmer therefore less breathable.
The higher the thread count the less air passes through freely and the heat is trapped.
Organic bamboo however is naturally soft and breathable and does not rely on thread count to grade the quality.
Therefore 300 thread count feels more like 1000 thread count, with the added benefit of being more breathable, hypoallergenic , temperature regulating and more durable than other fabrics.
How to pick the right thread Count?
The key to thread counts is the quality of the thread or yarn that is being used.
Organic or natural fabrics are also more preferable because the are not processed and avoid the potentially harmful chemical exposure.
If you don’t like to be warm at night, you need a lower thread count in cotton because you want your bedding to be breathable. But this will mean that the bed linen will not be as durable or soft as the higher count.
Or you can choose bamboo which is naturally breathable ,softer and more durable than other bed linen fabrics
