Why do I sweat when I sleep and what can I do about it?
This is a common question I asked myself. After going into the menopause early than I should have I decided to research it in more detail and this what I came to understand.

Metabolism
Exercise routines can affect your body temperature, it can also increase in your heart rate and core body strength. Therefore boosting your metabolism which may cause your thyroid to release more hormones to support more activity. Both the increase in metabolism and the shift in hormones is the perfect storm and can lead to night sweats. To reduce this try to exercise earlier in the day.
Hormones
Hot flushes and night sweats occur before and during menopause because of the changing hormone levels, this affects the body’s temperature control.
Changes in hormone levels affect the action of other hormones that are responsible for regulating the body’s temperature.
Using more breathable and moisture wicking bed linen such as Kbamboo will help to relieve this. Also I know everyone says drink lots of water ,but I found drinking a glass of cold water before bedtime really helped me.
Warmer Homes
With the onset of better insulation in houses and more glass, our homes are becoming warmer.
Typically rooms upstairs are warmer than rooms downstairs .
Try to keep the bedroom temperature between 16-24 degrees, a cooler temperature in your bedroom will ensure a more comfortable sleep.
Physiological difference between people
No two people will have the same metabolism and this can be an issue if you share a bed together.
There is a physiological difference especially between men and women.Men generally have a 23% higher metabolism than women, this means simply that the higher the metabolic rate will coincide with a higher body temperature.
In contrast even though mens metabolism is higher women generally have a higher body temperature.
What this means is there is a temperature war between men, women and their partners because of any physiological differences.
So try keeping the room cool, avoid warm low grade memory foam mattress they can be very warm, invest in temperature regulating organic bed linen( ie Kbamboo) and try and reach a compromise that works for you both.
