Is a bamboo duvet suitable for Ireland’s climate?

Yes. An ultra lightweight bamboo duvet is well suited to Irish homes, where central heating and insulated bedrooms can cause overheating. Its temperature regulating properties make it comfortable for most of the year.

Why doesn’t a bamboo duvet have a tog rating?

Traditional tog ratings measure heat retention in synthetic and feather duvets. Bamboo works differently by regulating temperature rather than trapping heat. For this reason, a tog rating would not accurately reflect how a bamboo duvet performs.

Is a bamboo duvet hypoallergenic?

Yes. Bamboo is naturally gentle on sensitive skin and suitable for allergy-prone sleepers. It resists dust mites and creates a fresher sleep environment compared to many synthetic fillings.

Bamboo duvets often do not use tog ratings because their thermal regulation works differently from traditional synthetic or feather-filled duvets. Here’s why:

Natural Temperature Regulation – Bamboo fibres are highly breathable and moisture-wicking, adjusting to body temperature rather than simply trapping heat like traditional duvets. This means they keep you warm in winter and cool in summer, making a single duvet suitable for all seasons.
Moisture-Wicking Properties – Unlike synthetic or down duvets, bamboo absorbs and evaporates moisture efficiently, preventing overheating and night sweats, which tog ratings don’t account for.
Alternative Heat Measurement – Instead of tog ratings, bamboo duvets are often described with terms like lightweight, all-season, or winter weight, as their insulation depends on airflow rather than just thickness or density.
Our bamboo all season duvets are 275 GSM (grams per square meter) which normally refers to the thickness of the filling of the duvet and 350 GSM for the winter duvet.

Natural fillings such as bamboo normally have a lower GSM than synthetic fabrics for example if you fill a jar full of feathers or sand the weight of the feathers will be lighter than the sand in the same jar.

Since tog ratings are mainly designed for synthetic and down-filled bedding, they don’t always apply to bamboo duvets, which regulate heat dynamically rather than just insulating it.

Therefore the manufacture does not apply a specific tog to the the duvets( the guide is all season or winter) we recommend all season from April to Sept ( depending on the weather) and change over to the winter duvet from Oct- March( depending on the weather & personal preference).
